No legal tender value in the U.S., their only worth is as bullion.

Question about American Gold Eagles. I was reading about these online the other day, and found something that said they are something like 91.5% gold, then the rest is a mix of silver and zinc. Can anyone confirm or deny that?

Confirm. 91% gold, 3% silver and 5 copper I believe. For American Eagle only. The rest are 99.99% pure.

As for Canadian Maple leaf having no value, thats kinda a non issue. How many people are going to spend these are legal tender. NO ONE. They have a legal tender value of like 1/10 the cost of the coin.

As for gold, I say agin i wouldnt buy it right now, In MY opinion (For whatever thats wroth. based on past few weeks, about Jack Shyte) gold is on the way down now. Around 3-50 I'll be interested. Until then, I'm buying a 1/10 oz Panda for teh coolness factor.

When you say "the rest are 99.99% pure," what are you referring to. Other U.S. gold coins than the American Gold Eagle, or gold coins from other countries, or what?

Coins from other countries.

I wonder what the percentages are on some of the older American gold coins?

There is some law regarding reporting purchases of foreign gold coins versus domestic, I will have to look it up again.
