thinking about buying an itouch

a friend is selling their itouch for $100

it's an 8gb 2nd gen..

do you think it's worth 100$ ?

I wouldn't be putting any videos on it.. only use it for music, and browsing the internet.. youtube, etc.. maybe install a few apps.

do you think this is a good buy?

Well, the new one is $230, has a much higher res, is thinner, lighter, has better battery life, comes with iOS 4, has a faster processor and more RAM. Oh and is new.

I personally would probably not go for it in light of those points

my friend has an older iphone and when upgrading to the new iOS4 it's really sluggish.. do you know if the old itouch's has this problem as well? or if it's just the phones.

4.1 is supposed to fix most of the speed problems, which mostly existed on the iPhone 3G. I don't think that the 2nd gen touch can upgrade to 4.x but I could be wrong. If it can, then it would suffer from the same speed problems.

Oh, the new iPod Touch also has dual cameras. Front facing webcam for FaceTime (an open API that could be adopted by others) and rear facing cam for video (but not still shots, terrible still camera apparently).

yeah.. thing is i'd mostly use it for mp3s in the car.. and something to play around with when i'm bored waiting somewhere.. so i doubt i'd use facetime ever, or the camera.

I bought mine from a friend for $100, but that was 4 months ago. I then sold it off to my younger brother for $16 when I got my iPhone 4, lol.

Just check ebay prices on 2nd gen 8GB and just roll with that.

I'll sell you mine for $99 😀

I'm half kidding there, but I think it's a fair price for it. 'Fair' in terms of I'd like for it to sell for a bit more for a stranger, but will let it go for less for a friend.

Oh and mine is exactly the same one (8GB 2nd generation) and it has no problem whatsoever with OS 4.

To me that seems too damn much for a 2yr old product. Yes Apple products hold their value but save a little more and get the current gen. $100 is waaaaay too much for that imo.
