thinking about buying a REPLAY TV

I don't think so.

If you don't subsccribe what you basically get is a digital VCR but with NO PROGRAMMING GUIDE.

Are you sure? I know the Tivo's used to be this way, however, with a software update, they killed that, and now, a Tivo without service will only pause live TV. There's no record functionality at all.

It may be different for the replay TVs though

Im trying to find out before I buy it, thats all I really ant is a Digital recording device.
I think if you dont want the guide you shouldnt have to pay for service and be able to use the functionality

What is there to think about buying a Replay TV?!?!?!

Just BUY IT!!! And trust me.. paying for the menu is worth every penny.

You could probably find a definite answer here.

I know that my original ReplayTV 3060 has NO MONTHLY FEES and I still get the daily subscriptions/programming guide 🙂

With ReplayTV, you only get a 4 day grace period before you have to pay up or the unit stops functioning.

I got my wife one for Christmas, she literally loves it more than she loves me 😉

I hooked it up to our router...no problems.

Even downloaded some digital pics from the computer onto that we can view on the TV, its great.

Even messed my cable connection around a little, so we could watch on channel and record another.

yes you have to pay for it. Sonic Blue loses money selling them for <$250, so to make money the activation is mandatory. The 4000, 5000 and all future ones will work like that for now.

I think you are wrong on the TIVO's there, according to the manual I have record and pause liveTV work fine without a subscription on a Tivo.

I bought the dishnetwork 721pvr when i was considering the replay or tivo. I decided to go that route cuz i was considering getting a sat anyway. The one i have is i believe 90hrs of record time and has a double tuner, so it has PIP and you can record one channel and view another or record two channels at the same time and watch soemthing u have recorded previously.

Also i believe it does not compress the incoming signal so the play back is as good as when it comes in.
drawbacks are you cant use it without a dishnetwork subscription.
pluses are you dont pay a monthly fee in additon to the dishnetwork subscription.

The only reason i bring this up is that i got mine for 450 this included the 721 and a basic box for another room and free 2 room installation.

just something to consider if your in the market for a pvr🙂
