Well, you could put it on a credit card if any of your cards have low interest rates. I don't recommend going into debt for a GPS though... but it's your money.

If you buy one, DON'T leave it on your window when you're not in the car. :)

why do you need to make payments? are you planning on getting a high end $700 one? they have some cheapo ones like this. A GPS is a luxury, so I don't recommend buying one unless you REALLY need it (pro driver of sorts) or you can afford one outright. Google maps will suffice for most people.

I thought Walmart did away with layaway? Although there was a lot of backlash about that, so maybe they changed their mind.

Do you have Verizon Wireless? You can get VZNavigator on most phones for $9.99/month, and it works reasonably well. I'm pretty sure Sprint and AT&T offer GPS service on their phones too.

Apply for the Amex CostCo cc if you want to make payments.

Walmart sells GPS and offers financing.

So either save your money (recommended) or I hope you have good credit

I think you get a lot for another $50. I ended up picking one up and was very happy with it.

Thanks for the link. Hmmn I'll have to research that model.

Hell... You can get a GPS for around $100 now. I've seen them on Woot for even less than that!

The cheapest one that would recommend is the Garmin StreetPilot i3, though, and that's about $130 now.

If you got the extra money, pony up for a Nuvi with preloaded maps and full text to speech directions. They're much cheaper than they used to be!

Magellan 4040 is good price at costco., except it will be phrase out soon, like Nuvi 350.

Magellan 4200 will be out next week should have better interface w/ better screen, and HOPEFULLY, last longer than 2 hour battery life per charge.

One little complain about magellan 4040 is its inability to save location on-the-fly.
( On the way to your in-law, you notice there is a new Steak House. Well...you can't simply tap and save the location, so you can drop by later for quick feast)

No map browsing on-the-fly. You just want to move the map around like google map. But you must go back to menu, change display setting to 2D first. Come back to map and start browsing.

And it also lack of final designation prompt. (reach designation, and NOT telling you Left or Right side of 4 lanes street )

TTS lack of choices and sound extremely robotic.

But still $350 is great price.

Nuvi 350 is phrasing out. It will also be replaced by Nuvi 260 w/ build in antenna.
ONLY complain about Nuvi 350 is its maping info. (may or may not effect you)
For example, in Seattle area, all street name are by numbers. NE 12th ST is totally different place from 12th ST NE. Nuvi 350 simply show you 12th ST.

Also Nuvi 350 screen is not quite good if doesn't face you DIRECTLY.

here is one of the pic from my Nuvi 2xx vs Nuvi 3xx comparision review at gpspassion.com
http://home.comcast.net/~passi...ps/nuvi350/screen3.JPG

p.s. mugs is right on the money! never leave your GPS in the car when not around.
For one thing, Li-ion accelerate its aging process under high temperature. (LA? summer day?)

Two. when you leave your GPS in your glove box, thief might still break in to try their luck when they spot your windshield mount.

At GPSpassion.com you might get idea of alternative custom mount. For me, you can check my following pic.

If TTS is the "must", then there are Nuvi 260 w/ TTS. (bit too expensive. yes, yes, I have one for sale at sale forum. Yes, I have done testing and review is on the way.)

Also should list what's important to you.

Battery life? (portablity - if battery don't last, it is NOT portable)
Screen?
Display contrast?
Routing Engine?
TTS?
Choice of Language?
Price?
Frequency of usage?

I will also be testing new Magellan 3250 when it comes out next week. You could wait also?
Mio C320 is also coming out w/ TTS.
Navigon 2100 is also coming out w/ TTS.
Harman Kardon GPS 310 is coming out w/TTS. ( I have review on Harman GPS 500, and I must said, I am quite impressed w/ it)
My review below. (testing GPS only)
