Thinking about buying a DLP RP TV

Im in the market of buying a Home cinema. Maybe not right now but within the next 6 months or so. So far the DLP Rear Projection TVs look good in price.

Preferably I want a 50" tv and as I said the DLP RP tech look quite nice. Now if any of you out there owns a DLP projector or preferably a DLP RP TV could oyu please enlighten me the pros and cons of it.

I already know the most common ones such as the rainbow effect, allthough I've never seen it on a DLP projector I used to own a few years back. Also that for best IQ the TV has to be positioned at Eye level, which isnt such a big deal.

I was thinking about the Thomson 50-DLW616 model. 1280x720 native resolution with DVI input and other inputs aswell. It will be coupled with a 5.1 setup, which one I havent decided yet.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mitsubishi has a 1080p model out now. Not sure about the other companies...sorry I gotta go, I am sure others will elaborate more

Maybe I should note that my budget for the TV alone is around 3000-3500 euros max.. dunno what that is in US dollars.. lets say $4K maximum.

I like my 50" Panasonic DLP. Great set with a great picture. I'd recommend a DLP. I haven't had any problems and side viewing angles are pretty darn good. I watch it from my kitchen all the time which is a good 10' to the left of the set.

I have a samsung 50" DLP and I could not be happier. The thing is just badass. When I got it last November I was looking at the DLP, LCD, and Plasma TV's. The plasmas were definitely my 3rd choice. The LCD was a good TV also. However, the black level on them just was not the greatest. The DLP picture just looks sssooo sharp. And the Samsung is definitely a way to go. It is a badass TV and I use it for hours each day and I just love it. The rainbow effect does not bother me at all and I honestly do not even know what it is. However, me, or anyone else who's watched my TV has ever gotten a headache from it or even mentioned anything about it.

Here is a pic of it:

It matches well with my speakers and the stand matches perfectly. great tv! If you can wait it out, I'd wait to get a 1080p.

Great, so how about the bulbs? Have you ever had to replace them? Whats the average brun time for each bulb? And does the picture gets darker over the time and you have to replace the bulb to get it brighter?

This is mainly going to be used as a standard TV but also serve as a computer screen 50% of the time. Mainly playing WoW 😀

I have a Panasonic LCD RPTV and my bulb has blown out 3 times in 2 years. Fortunately, Panasonic has been supportive and fixed the problem despite it being out of warranty.
