I'm looking at getting a 2000 Grand Prix GTP. It's white and the car is loaded...leather seats, moonroof, etc etc

A co-worker and I were talking and he said that a bra would really look nice on the car. I'm not a car guy, so I've never dealth with a bra before (don't take that quote out of context... :p) and was wondering what you guys thought. Should I get one? What are the pros/cons of getting one?

My roommate said that they scratch the heck out of the car, while I thought a bra was suppose to prevent against scratches/dings.

They can scratch because things get stuck under the bra for long periods of time.

Dust and grit can get under there and if it's fitted poorly it works like sandpaper on the front of your car.

Also, not as big of a deal on white as with other colors (red in particular), but the hood will fade out over time and when you take off the bra there will be a distinct line where the bra was covering.

Only one I'd ever consider is a clear bra...but those are pricey.

So if I took the bra off when I washed the car (once a month, at least) would that help?

Not to mention water damage if you don't take it off when it rains.

Don't use one.

It would help. Honestly, I have one for my car that I only use on long trips, but there was a period of about a year where I had it on. I removed it every few weeks to wash the car, and I never noticed any scratching, but I did see lots of dirt and things under the bra. Honestly, I'd be more concerned with the fading issue.

care to elaborate?

1. They look like suck.
2. The color will look different after some time.
3. As other posters have said, sand and crap that gets under the bra will work like sandpaper.
4. They look like suck.
5. They look terrible.

Do not use one! There are many reasons, and most of them have been posted. I have personal experience with it, so trust me.

i dislike bras too (in this context)- i think they make a car look fugly. just keep the car clean. unless you're going for a looooong road trip where you're likely to kill loads of bugs on the highway and now clean the car for like 4 weeks or something, don't do it.

Rock chips are even uglier IMO. You can take a bra off, you can't take rock chips off.

you should just cover your car in parifin wax, then it will be safe from the elements.

Piece of cake!! Anyone with a little dexterity can get this. I can unhook a 4-hook with my left hand in ~3 seconds.
