Thinking about buying a 19" LCD widescreen, can my X1800XT do 1440 X 900?

I'm thinking about buying a 19" LCD widescreen at a local Staples for $239 since I'm taking a JavaScript class this term and it would be really nice to have 2 windows open side by side. My 23" HDTV screen that I normally use is great but it only goes to 1280 X 768, not big enough for 2 full size windows.

My problem is, I'm not sure that my card can display 1440 X 900 res. I looked in the display properties and I have 1360 X 1024, then 1600 X 1200, no inbetween. CCC has the same selection. Is this because the monitor isn't hooked up? will it automatically create that res wwhen I plug it in? Can I create the resolution in CCC?

Yeah, it can for sure, it's just a matter of how. You might have to go as far as PowerStrip, but I honestly think once you hook up the monitor it will get resolution and scan rate info from the monitor and put them in the selection boxes for you.

1440 is barely wide enough to have two windows open at one time.

once you plug the monitor in that resolution will most likely be selectable. i had no wide screen resolutions selectable prior to plugging in my 2005.

The control panels in today's video cards (both ATI and nVidia) hides resolutions that you normally would not use. This includes widescreen resolutions in a tradtional 4:3 monitor. It should become available as soon as you plug in the new monitor. Being a widescreen monitor, I'd shut down the computer first, then start it with the new monitor in the first time just to be on the safe side.

yes, that's the native desktop res i run on my monitor (and didn't need pstrip or any third party apps to do it).
