Thinking about building new PC

My current rig is in my sig.

I have the opportunity to sell this rig and build a new PC. I was waiting for Nahalem before building a new rig, but a co-worker has offered me a good price for it ($1,200.00). I could build a new rig based on a Q9450, 4GB DDR2 1066, AMD 4850, etc. for about $1,200.00.

After looking over the specs of my current rig and the proposed new rig, I don't see a huge difference in performance, but I do see some energy savings advantages.

What should I do? My current rig is just fine for me. Some video encoding, SupCom, Crysis that's about it.

You're right in that the performance gain would be modest. Nevertheless, if you enjoy building computers, why not? As you said, it's a free chance to upgrade, so you don't have much to lose.

BTW, if you have any other friends who'll pay that much for such a system, send them my way! ;-)

Actually, I have a few friends that love PC gaming, but have no idea how to build thier own PC. I'm not about to teach them how either, and they're fine with that. That's how I finance my upgrades, every 1 - 2 years.

By the way, I think I'll take your advice. Looks like a Q9450 is in my future, as well as going back to AMD/ATI, my last from ATI was a X1900XT.

Looks like I'll spend the weekend on my new PC.

1200 is a lot for a decent computer, if you dont oc, q9450 is faster on clock, more cache, consumes less power.

with 1200, you can have bigger and faster hdd, latest p45 chipsets, faster video card.
