thinking about a Q6600 but motherboard I have might not do much

Right now I have a Asus p5b Deluxe motherboard and an E6600, doing a lot of video encoding.
Some people have told me a Quad would double the speed of doing this, but will it really do much on the older motherboards?


If I uninstall all drivers in XP can I swap out to a newer motherboard without reinstalling the OS ?

I was going to use my P5b D before it broke for a quad. It should be great for wquad.
