Thinking about a new GPU...

I seem to be GPU limited. CPU is 965 @ 4.1GHz

I mostly play BC2 and noticed with my HD5770 CPU utilization was rarely above 80% and typically stayed between 70 and 75%. This is max settings at 1680x1050.

Two weeks ago CompUSA had the HD5850 on sale for $180 so I picked one up. Now my CPU utilization hovers around 80% never going higher than 83%; I did see a nice FPS bump though. Seems even with the upgrade there is some potential left. I was thinking about picking up a second HD5850.

Another route would be to pick up another monitor and go to 1920x1200. Though if I am already maxing the GPU I assume this will produce lower frame rate and similar CPU utilization.

Thoughts?

With that low a resolution, getting more GPU power seems wasted.

at 1920x1200 a second card would help, But then thats more work for each GPU anyway.

I game at 1600x1200 for the moment just picked up a 2500k and oced it to 4.3ghzs and slapped in a gtx560.

Bc2 the gpu usage is in the 97-99% range constantly and cpu is around 30% or so.

Don't know why his 5770 would only load at such a low utilization with that oc on the cpu unless Bc2 is just that demanding cpu wise? i may be wrong but maybe a higher clock on the cpu could help.

I really wonder where the "GPU usage" goes from. Does it measure the SIMD/SP loading as well as TMUs and ROPs? I would think only the individual 5/4-SP VLIW units that comprise the SIMDs would be measured.

Picked up a second HD5850 today. Damn, what a difference. CPU is almost pegged now with a nice FPS bump, running 89-90%, never above 90%. I'm ready for BF3. Also ordered a 24" 1920x1200 monitor from Newegg, should be here this week.

Additionally, my case isn't any louder that I can tell with the 2nd 5850.

Awesome.
