Thinking about a new CPU ..BUT

Neos

Senior member
My wife complains that she is not able to multitask well on our Athlon XP 1500 w/ 512 Kingston DDR ram. It is on an MSI MATX board with SATA.

I was about to step to a A64 3000 CPU and a new board - but caught an article about 'How Much Ram Do You Need?'.

To get the multitasking that is needed would I be just as good to get to 1 Gig or more of ram on this setup. We do no gaming - just web (she accesses her office server from home), Office XP ..general stuff.

Thanks for any and all help.

More ram would probably help. Another 512mb stick is also cheap, so I'd try just adding another 512mb first to see if that is sufficient. If it doesn't that upgrade sounds like it's what you need.

Personally, I don't think "Multitasking" is exactly the issue you are having. It's probably more related to switching from one task to another which would indicate lack of ram and the need to disk swap is the issue.
