Thinking about a new build

During the past few months, I've acquired some parts mostly by trading:

-Antec Case - I believe its a P183. Pretty roomy. Traded someone for a couple 4Gig laptop SODIMMS I had laying around

-CoolMax 1200W modular PS + cables - Found it in one of the recycling bins at work. Currently using it so I guess it's ok lol

-LSI PCI-e SATA/SAS RAID controller + cables - I forget the model. Traded someone a 17" flat-panel monitor for it. Currently using it

- A bunch of SAS 2.5" Enterprise-level 500 and 600G SAS HD's. Acquired when a large part of our company got sold.

Here's what I would like to get to complete a build:

-ASRock Z97 Extreme6 LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Mobo

-XFX R9-290X-EDFD Radeon R9 290X 4GB 512-Bit vid card

-G.SKILL TridentX Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 RAM

- Intel Core i7-4790K CPU - Not solid on this yet tho, maybe 1 step below? I also have an unused i5 2600 (not K) I could use

I've never had an AMD card, just wanting to try something different I guess.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Oops - almost forgot. Will be used primarily for gaming and generic web stuff

What's your budget? That makes a big difference.

Personally, I wouldn't power anything I was attached to with a new CoolMax PSU. 😛

Wow....just googled CoolMax power supply reviews.......they pretty much suck lol.

OK. Sorry forgot about budget. I'm lookin around $900

In that case, I'd go with [thread=2192841]Mfenn's midrange build[/thread]. Scrap the HDD and the case - but not the SSD or the PSU - and it should fit in $900. Though I notice he's aiming a little lower than $1k lately.
