Thinking about a memory upgrade...

Hey ladies and gents, I've been doing some thinking and was just curious if a memory upgrade would be worth while?

You can look in my sig for full system specs.

Right now I'm using 1GB of Mushkin value ram (2x512) and it's the DDR400 flavor. Since my MOBO has 3 slots and a 3gb max I was wondering if changing to a single 1gb stick would be beneficial...maybe DDR500?

Basically, are there any benefits that a single DIMM over dual?

I know that DDR500 would be an increase, but would it be noticeable in games like Far Cry and HL2?

Thanks in advance all.

Sell your current 2x512mb and then get 2x1GB that should do it for you

Well duh, I know that...

But what I'm asking is going from 2 to 1 and possibly going DDR400 to 500 worth it?

I know an extra gig would be nice, but other than that will I see any changes?

imo unless you're doing some like video/picture editing or memory-intensive computational tasks, 1GB is fine.

Unless you're having a problem playing Far Cry, HL2, or whatever game, I wouldn't upgrade now. It seems like your system is more than enough to handle current games.
