Thinking about 350Z..

Currently have an Infiniti M45 and thinking about adding a 2007 350Z to the family. Test drove a Roadster Touring edition and loved it. Interior seemed a bit cheap, but what can you expect from a $35k car?

Just wanted to find out some info..

1. I didn't get to drive it on the highway.. how's the noise with the roof up? Is it tolerable for 45 min or so commutes?
2. Is there any difference between the 07 and 08 models?
3. What real world mpg do you guys get?
4. How's the stereo system in the Enthusiast edition? Better to get Enthusiasts edition and do aftermarket upgrades? Is this easy?
5. Any good GPS systems to retrofit in the center console?
6. Any major complaints or anything else I should look for?
7. What kind of prices are you guys paying? Just want to get an idea.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

I thought about it myself, until I realized that it was a 2 seater.

Since I dont have a girlfriend, it meant that I'd always be driving around with some dude next to me, so I felt it was a little too sausagy for my tastes.

I'll be glad if I could ever spend $20k on a car.

G35/G37 >>>>>>>>>>>> 350Z.

Performance is no issue, as the Infiniti will accelerate/turn/brake just as good as the 350Z, if not better. Luxury/Comfort/NAV/Options obviously favor the Infiniti as well. It's incredibly hard to recommend a Z.

That is all.

He means the Q37, infiniti version of the 350Z.

EDIT: and to the OP, wait a year or two. According to C&D they're re-designing the 350Z soon. It will supposedly get a 350 hp version of the vq37 and it's going to be smaller and lighter than the current gen.

While I love my G35c that statement is not entirely correct.

The while sharing the same engine and brakes the 350z is close to 200lbs lighter than the G35 coupe. Also the G35c is longer and has a wider wheelbase which make for a more stable ride but one would assume an increase in turning radius over the Z. The turning thing also applies to the G37 but the upgraded engine will obviously help with acceleration. Also note that the G37 is 100ish pounds heavier than the G35.

Not to mention the price difference. Factor that in and the rest is moot.

Yeah he could spend 35K, or he could spend 28K and get the same car sans the luxo crap.

I am thinking the Infinity G series is more up your alley.

It's not a quiet car nor a loud one. Most I have been in have been extensively modified though, yet are still decent.

Not sure on the 07 / 08...should be an easy read at edmunds.com though

mpg should be posted as well....you can't really say real world as everyone drives differently. EPA estimates should scale though to what you are seeing in one car vs another.

Aftermarket stereo is always better and cheaper. Stock is not bad though.

Same with GPS...depends on what you are looking to do.

edmunds can show you the price for your area. I have found it to be accurate. I still shoot for as close to dealer cost + a little for them as I can. These are much better values a year or two old. They had a recent powertrain change though not sure if it was 05 /06 /07 though. The new engine was critical of the break in procedure. If done wrong the thing always burns oil.

Budget is key though to all the above.

its already out

That's odd, all I see are 2007 3.5L 350z. Where are you seeing 2008+ 3.7L Zs?

hmm, nevermind. I thought the bump in power was from the 3.7, looks like thats G35/37 only at the moment

The 3.7L Z is supposed to have 330HP or something like that.

I have a 06 Z and it's very fun to drive and I love the way it looks. I also have a very strong brand loyalty to Nissan because I owned a Sentra for over a decade before I got the Z, and I trashed that car so bad yet it never once gave me trouble. So when I was looking to buy a new car, Nissan was the only company I would consider.

1. I have the coup, so the noise is not an issue.
2. Don't know.
3. 18 MPG
4. It's average, and if you're an audio nut, you should get after market upgrade regardless.
5. I'm sure there are, but I'm in the process of putting a carputer in there instead of dedicated GPS.
6. Gas prices...
7. I paid $36K after taxes and fees.

That's just not true. Even the decked out Z pales in comparison to the G Coupe in terms of luxury/comfort. If you didn't catch the OP, look at these 3 things he's looking for :

(1)- Noise level concerns
(4)- Stereo quality
(5)- NAV System

Someone with the combination of those concerns should be looking at the G, unless he's dead set on a convertible. If that's the case, a Porsche Boxster, lightly used, would make a lot more sense for someone with Luxury inclinations. Not to mention that the Porsche handles infinitely better than the Z.
