How did Gerald Newburger know where the address was in New York? Who would be dumb enough to give his address to a person demanding something he won on Ebay over a year later? I suppose Gerald Newburger might have been able to do a reverse lookup on the phone number he obtained if it was a listed number. Goes to show you, never give your personal information to strangers on the 'Net.

eBay policy prohibits falsifying or omitting your name, address, and/or telephone number (including use of fax machines or disconnected numbers).

What to do:
Please report any offenses. Disciplinary action may result in the indefinite suspension of a user's account, temporary suspension, or a formal warning. eBay will consider the circumstances of an alleged offense and the user's trading records before taking action.

I reported a seller once because he was trying to back out of a deal and I believe they suspended his account.

Back in 1999 I actually got a neg from a guy. He said it wasn't nice for me to outbid him at the last second. Won it by 1sec and 1cent:D
Well, he should have put in his maximum proxy bid instead of trying to cheat the seller by bidding at the last moment.

(assuming they had proxy bids in 99)

He did. He was just pissed because he lost at the last minute.

Actually what happened was me and another guy, a second guy, BOTH sniped it at 1sec/1cent but apparently mine was recorded first so I won even though we both had the same high bid. I think eBay still had some time server issues back then, today something like that wouldn't happen since the second guys bid wouldn't register since it was too low, they probably changed the code on when the min bid needed is checked.

That was a wierd auction, me and this second guy both have the same amount high bid, I'm the high bidder, and there's the first guy who is pissed and leaves the neg. Meanwhile seller is confused and we end up having to talk to eBay to resolve it.

When bidding with someone, and communicating with someone over ebay, perhaps it is best not to give information where people can locate you..

I actually used to like the Onsale auctions, where, there had to be a certain time after the last bid in order to call the action as being over. If you were on, and the time ran out, and someone outbid you, you could continue the auction by rebidding. I'm not sure if the reason eBay doesn't do that is because they Onsale patented it or something. IMHO, it would solve this issue AND give the seller a higher final selling price. Good for all I say.
