had 1 friend recently who referred his tweak-addict friend to his job...
on the day of the interview, tweaker called the boss and left him a message saying sorry he couldn't make it. why? because he had to tweak. and i mean this guy really needs a job becaue his little brother is raising him like a son and he just got out of prison as well.

another friend referred his buddy to a sprint (sales) job and he didnt even bother going to the interview (or even calling in to say he couldn't make it). he also needed it because he owes a nice 15k debt last i heard and was pondering bankruptcy (tried to open a shop dedicated to ricing up cars.. failed miserably)

result? both referers lose credibility... i hate jackasses :disgust:

anyone else have similar experiences? now i think twice before referring anyone to my job...

I know someone who referred a friend and the friend stole a truck trailer full of big screen TVs a few months after he was hired. :)

I only refer those that I know are worthwhile. Actually, just referred a good friend of mine to the company I work for. He got the job basically on the spot.

Never have, never will. All risk, no reward.

uh, the reward is that they'll stand behind you when you need it.

That would seem a little too convenient, if your friend you referred is backing you up on something. I'd rather have the support of someone I don't have a prior relationship with. It looks more credible, IMO.

It was your frnd's fault that they couldn't judge those people beforehand. I am not againt referring nebody cuz I know one day I might need it. But before I do I will make sure that he/she really deserves it and not going to ruin my own name.

by "stand behind you", i mean, if you ever need an introduction to someone, a referral, or whatever, they can help you out. not necessarily with the same employer that you referred them for.

I can understand that. I've just seen it go bad too many times to even think about it. I've even seen the person being referred replace their friend that referred them. Maybe I should have said much risk, little reward. To me, it's along the same lines as selling a friend a used car. Just something to stay away from.

I agree.

I recomended a friend for a job with my company back in June, and it's worked out great. I did a lot of thinking before even letting him know that my company was looking to hire a couple new techs, though.
