I have been looking for something to drive so that I can put my mustang down for a while, while I build my 347 stroker, and do some other things to it.

Today I found, through a guy I work with, a 1979 Ford Fairmont.

It has an in-line 6 w/ a single barrell carb., Auto tranny. Plain jane though, no air or anything of that nature.

I am unsure of it being a 2/4 door or a wagon. I am supposed to go look at it sunday.

The way the guy talked it was in Very good shape, Everything is original, motor has 63,000 miles on it. Has only had 2 owners, a little old lady owned it for 60,000 miles of its life, and the person I work withs father owned it the other 3k miles. He got it from his dad when he passed away.

He told me $600 bucks. Does that sound fair, if it is indeed in good shape? I only want this for a daily driver while I work on my mustang, and a work car after that.
I tried looking up the value on Kelly Blue book but it doesnt go back that far, IDK about checking prices on old cars either.

Thanks for any help,
Josh

Yea I am not going to decide untill I see it, just trying to get an idea about if its worth that in decent shape so I dont get ripped lol...

Can't beat $600 for a working/decent shaped car that gets good gas mileage. But I would feel weird going from a 92 5.0 mustang to a old grandmas car lol...

It just means you put less miles on your Mustang. It might let you do more modifications also.

Yea, It means letting me put in my supercharged 347 Stroker, New tranny, Rear end gear, etc... without having to do it in one weekend because I needed the car for school/work on monday.

Ill probally end up buying it, this guy said it was pretty nice and he owns several old cars (94 Corvette, 78 Corvette, Old Novas, Old Chevelles, A Superbird, etc...) and I have seen several of his cars and they are nice, so Im pretty sure this will be decent enough to justify $600.

I just didnt want to give $600 and then come to find out I can get them everywhere for $300.

As long as it isnt rusted out and its running properly (no knocking or anything) I dont see why it wouldnt be worth at least $600

He said no rusting, and he said its just a little cold natured, but functions properly and has had timely oil changes.

Yea but your race car wasent an inline 6 most likely, it was probally the Fairmont futura wasent it? Anyways post some pics. When I put the motor in my mustang I will have a perfectly fine almost stock 5.0 motor leftover, and tranny too. I could drop them in the Fairmont :p lol.....

That old grandma car is pretty much is a mustang only bigger :). Yes thats a good deal. Any car that is in good shape and runs for $600 is a good deal. Plus since pretty much anything from a mustang will fit it they make great sleepers.

We bought a new one in '79, needed a new tranny in 82, needed a new tranny in '85, then we sold that POS.
