If you buy a power supply, it should tell you how many of each type of connector comes with the power supply.

If you have the 460 watt power supply with one six pin connector, you might be able to get a molex to 6 pin adapter to use for the other plug in the graphics card.

That's a shame, there is also sata to PCI 6-Pin adapters (you could always unplug the sata power connector to the CD-ROM if you're not using it). Might be worth a shot.
 
You could also plop one of these in there for $28.

Save you a ton of wiring and since your card isn't exactly a beast, it won't kill the uint.

I've put a similar unit in a friends system and it's still going strong.

Note!!! Although it claims a certain rating, it will fail or at the very least become super loud with over 225w of draw.
 
So you have a 460W PSU with no extra molex lines at all? Can you tell us the amps listed on the 12V lines (should be on sticker on side of PSU)? The adapter lyssword suggested should actually work as long as you have enough amps available on your 12V rail.

And, trust me, even an OEM 460W PSU should be more than adequate for a single 6850.
 
I would hold off on the new power supply until you try a 6 pin splitter. 460 watts is plenty for that card + system and most of HP's power supplies are manufactured by Delta (huge OEM with a good reputation), who also builds the internals for a lot of aftermarket power supplies. I know lots of Antec power supplies are re branded Delta units, for example.

I have exactly the same problem as you did. I am trying to upgrade my HP h8-1160t to AMD 6970. I have bought a Seasonic PSU. But, there is no signal, and the system will not boot with the 6970 plugged in. This is the case with 2 new 6970s.

GPU-Z suggests the PCIe slot on our motherboard IPISB-CH2 is 2.0. Our cards are PCIe 2.1. My default AMD 6570 is also PCIe 2.1. So, the BIOS should support our card.

One thing I found funny is: I booted Windows with the on board integrated graphic. Then I plugged in the 6970. Windows recognized it, but installing the driver requires reboot. Upon reboot, there is no signal again, and the system will not boot.

Do you have a solution now? I would appreciate your help.
