I bought a laptop tonight and when I took it home, I realized that it came with a 12 cell battery, which protrudes out and is not flush with the laptop. I would much rather return it, get a laptop with a smaller battery that is flush with the laptop. I plan to do an exchange with best buy. Is best buy pretty strict about their 15% restocking fee? I will only have had the computer for 1 night . It hasn't even been turned on yet.

a couple things to note:

1. This is not buyers remorse. I asked the sales rep about all the features that I wanted and he pretty much confirmed what I needed. It's not about the amount I spent.

2. the display model did not have he 12 cell battery attached so it did not protrude out. How would I have known to ask "hey, does the battery protrude out?"

Usually they are cool about it if you are exchanging for something of equal or greater value. YMMV.

Yep. Smash that fucker before you return it!

When did you buy it? Have you done anything to it to make it not in brand new condition other than opening it?

I bought it tonight, and will be planning to take it back tomorrow night. I have not done a single thing to it. all the plastic wraps, foam, and still there. the only thing is that you can tell that I opened the box(because you have to tear the tape out)

I returned a working laptop to best buy and I was given a full refund and no charge. It has to be YMMV I would think though.

they'll usually waive it on an exchange.

the way it protrudes angles the keyboard enough to be uncomfortable to type. I prefer it to be flat on the desk.
