I thought the idea of time capsule was pretty interesting, especially with the wireless capability. I wonder if there is a PC equivalent solution. I need to stop living on the edge. 😉

How about this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16822173054

Does it do pretty much everything what Time Capsule does? How difficult or easy will this drive work? I assume Time Capsule is idiot-proof...

If not the drive above, what's your recommendation?

Wait, this drive doesn't have the 801.11a/b/g or n.....what gives?

If you have some extra parts/drives around, you could buy Windows Home Server OEM from Newegg and build a WHS box -- it is definitely the most idiot-proof network backup for PCs there is. Plus it offers lots of other great features, web-based remote access to your files/systems, media streaming, network health monitoring, among other features. However, it too does not support wireless. I wouldn't want my backup device to be wireless anyways, too flaky and slow throughput for non-N machines.

How many PCs and what OSes are you backing up? What sort of backups are you looking for? Just important files, entire system images, what?

Just the important files. I back up my files on CD/DVD but not regularly enough. I often only do so when I need to fresh install my system. I think I might benefit more if there is a program or device that will do it regularly if not constantly.

WHS is a wonderful way to do exactly that, and far, far more. It's the best solution I've seen, yet.

Time Capsule works on Windows PCs as well. You just lose out on the automatic backup feature.

lose automatic backup on PC? How could that be? I thought that's one of the selling point of Time Capsule...

The Windows Home Server is too expensive a solution...the software alone is $180 *O*!!
