Think I killed my X-25 G1

A friend sent me an X-25 G1 160GB as a gift. I installed windows on it, played some wow, put my PC to sleep to go finish shopping...and when I came back, the PC froze when resuming. Now the BIOS takes a long ass time to detect the drive, and when it does, it says S.M.A.R.T. Status BAD.

It won't work in my laptop either, though when I put it in my laptop I get a different error. It's basically asking me for a hard drive password.

Is this normal? Did I just get bad luck? Any ideas on what I can do besides RMA?
