Well the i7 project that put my i5 project on the fast track to being done just died.

I had posted on the motherboard forums that the SB heatsink came messed up. I realized I may as well reset it myself since that was all they where going to do then tell me it was all good. So I reset set the heat sink and went along with the build. Here it is.

i7 920
ASRock x58 Extreme
6gigs of ummm Gskill 1600 stuff
True 120
Corsair TX750
2x HIS 4870's

So I was playing with this set up. Having fun as it was my first i7. Got to 3.8ghz and hit a wall so I lowered the multi to see how high I could go with the rest of the components. Well i was testing at 190x18 vcore 1.3800sh VTT was 2 or 3 ticks up from stock and so was Dimm.

So I was stressing it with p95 about half hour into it the PC shuts down once again. The only thing is this time it doesn't reboot.....I was like hmmm, but I was busy so took no mind to it. Came back a couple hours later and hit the power button nothing. Unplugged everything not neccessary to boot....nothing. Different PSU.....nothing. I would think it is safe to say the Mobo is dead? What do you guys think? Oh and of course tried reseting Cmos with button and via battery.

Thanks DOminic

Yup. Prolly should have RMA'd it with the bad SB heatsink, but I might have done the same thing as you. I hate RMA'ing new toys.

Although the mobo seems highly likely, it might be worth it to see if you can test the other parts.

Yea I tried all of the above mentioned and even more ;) To know avail best I get is the psu fan and leds blinking on for like a millisecond. Just dropped a 3xSLI EVGA and it is working.

This one sucks though it was my most thorough and complete wiring job I have done. Even covered the front panel wires with mesh. It was sweet. Of course now I have to start over and from the looks of things won't be as pretty because of board layout but can't wait 4+ weeks for the RMA. If they honor it since I put new TIM on when I reset the heatsink (same color).

The real bummer is my Tru 120 doesn't fit now. Fan bracket hits the top fans in the case (Zalman GS1000). Ehhh maybe water cooling now lol. Time to look into other top coolers. Guess I will put that one in my PC :D

Thanks Dominic

Oops missed this one. Ummm I would have to check but they where not high at all. I know Vcore was either 1.35 or 1.38
Uncor was a little less
And there was only one other I had adjusted and it was only like 1 or 2 steps from stock
Oh and ram was 1.6 if not then 1.65

Sorry new to i7 so do not know all the different voltages off hand.
