Just kidding, that's mean... But seriously, the hardware site business was a niche market a couple years ago. Frankly there isn't room for many of them. The big ones (AnandTech, SharkyExtreme, FiringSquad, [H]ard|OCP, & Tom's Hardware, The Tech Zon) probably get 99% of the market, with possibly hundreds of small sites getting a small sliver of the traffic. The only way you'd have a hope would be to start big, with a large financial backing.
If you want my honest opinion, you'd be better off investing your time in a solid education. You'll likely end up much further ahead than you would have with a hardware site.
But if you want to do it in your spare time just for fun... Go for it. It can't hurt, & could even get you some good background experience.
