IIRC, this was because Murray pulled a Vin Diesel and wanted an exhorbant amount of cash for the sequel. Bernie mac IMHO will give the sequel a "fresher" feel.

There is one thing about the first that will MAKE me see the sequel and it can be decribed in 4 words:

Cameron Diaz, Gold Bikini
