I named my buffalo54g router to NETGEAR for the longest time to see if people would try to log in and fail and they did. Then I flashed it to DD-WRT and renamed it to Buffalo54g.

I have a wifi network I leave open for my neighbors... but the internets come out upside down if you use it...

I like Howard Stern. My neighbor across the street got a kick out of it when he saw it. I'm sure the bible thumpers next door think I'm the anti-christ but I don't care.

One more time. What kind of "kick" did it give you or your neighbor? It's just the name of a crass celeb personality, right? *shrug* I like Nintendo games. If I couldn't think of anything else and named my router "Miyamoto" after their famed game designer, I wouldn't think anything of it nor would I expect anyone else.

You're right...I'm going to change the name of my wireless network to "who pissed in your cornflakes."

There's an open network near my house, about as open as it gets. Linksys is the ssid, admin/admin is the user and pass, with an unsecured wireless printer on the network as a bonus. I haven't done anything mischievous yet but I almost have to.

Print loads of CP
Call local PD
.......

(note: dont do this)

Back when I stole internet I started to get kicked off repeatedly. It seems someone was on to me. Then I changed my computer's name to "Printer" and never got kicked off again.

Used to steal internet while in Iraq. Used the "for official use only" network. Which was way better than trying to use the next to impossible to get on commercial network.

All you had to do was name your computer something very official sounding, and it got left alone. All the noobs got thier lappys confiscated for leaving thier network id as "Joe's Laptop" or something obvious like that.

You are wrong! Miyamoto is an awesome name!

Why are we broadcasting our ids again?

The average Stern fan is super easily amused, I use to work with people who listened to him. If you knew any Stern listeners you'd understand why one seeing a "Howard Stern" SSID would make their day.

The neighbor who lives behind me, really nice guy with a couple of small kids has an encrypted ID of GOFUCKURSELF

I really laughing pretty hard first time I hooked the internet up when I moved it. I have suggested he change it considering the small children...but for now funny 🙂
