Things you didn't realize at the time, but are now clearly obvious.

I'll start

My 6th grade teacher/coach was a lesbian.

1. She never had a boy friend or talked about guys
2. She loved all sports and constantly talked about football
3. She had a pet shetland pony
4. She talked about her one friend (who was a girl) quite a bit
5. She was a major alpha female
6. She always wore track suits any chance she got, usually made out of windbreaker

One of the girls in my class was abused...
She would come to class with random bruises.
She "fell" a lot (usually down the stairs.....)
She had many personality quirks.
She saw here father as a supreme authority figure and would often say stuff like "When my dad hears about this..."
She lived in a hell hole trailer house. (provided, this doesn't necessarily point to abuse, but it is somewhat of an indicator)
Her father would often have her and her younger sisters run around naked.

Of course, this was in the 1st and 3rd grade, so I was blissfully naive about the world. Now, I feel terrible about how we treated her as kids, not only was she likely abused, but us kids were little assholes to her because she was weird.

my college roommate was bipolar.

idk why I never realized it at the time, but in retrospect, it made perfect sense.

he had manic weeks where he'd be the life of the party, running all over, and doing insane shit like driving 80 mph down local, residential streets... and he had his depression weeks where he wouldn't even leave the dorm room.

Pickles are actually cucumbers, and raisins are grapes. Anything else you missed as a child?

I would of had a similar story as the OP about my 5th grade teacher, but it was pretty apparent even at that age that he was gay.

1. Had a pink hand-held vanity mirror
2. Had the 'gay' accent, even back then it was difficult to miss
3. He always clipped his toe-nails while we were taking a test (Surely only a gay guy would do this)

I didn't realize she liked me.

(No, it doesn't matter who, or when. It's happened so many times it might as well be written on my tombstone.)

Ha! Makes me think of a girl I met in college who spent the first evening we met griping about how she hated her boyfriend and took the initiative to give me her phone number when I walked her back to her dorm room. How in the world did I not jump all over that?

My 4th-6th grade PE teacher:
-Would always wear sweatpants and 'jiggle his keys' in his pocket. We all knew he was playing pocket pool and would talk about it openly.
-He would have the class do weird exercises and 'help' some kids with their form.
-Coached a little league baseball team. Had no kids of his own or kids on the team.

Dude is currently in jail for molesting kids.

My grandad(dad's side)was gay. We didn't find out till he was 82. In retrospect none of us are surprised now.

My parents never loved each other and got married because my older sister was unexpected.

People that try to hard to look happy when they obviously shouldnt might be depressed, and possibly suicidal.

Too late now.
