I suppose it depends on the people, I can't think of a generalisation as to why the situation is as you described, except some people are lazy and want things done for them...

I think it has nothing to do with age, experience, education or anything like that.

There are certain people who revel in their ignorance of computers/sports/cars etc. and/or cannot be bothered to know how to do more than is required under perfect conditions. Many of those people also figure that, if it has to do with computers/sports/cars etc., they could not possibly figure out how to do anything with said computers/sports/cars etc., including, apparently, reading English or using common sense.

THOSE are the people that make me nuts.
