Things to visit in Miami or Florida in general

ndee

So I'm flying in 8 hours(it's night time here) to Miami and I want to ask you guys: what are somethings that you HAVE to see while visiting Miami. I didn't have time to buy a travel book so maybe some of you could help me out. I wanna go see the Universal Studios up in Orlando and Key West, other cool/nice places?

Thanks in advance!

The Coral Castle is a pretty cool tourist attraction. There's south beach, haulover beach (if you're into that sort of thing 😉), and biscayne bay.

I'm trying to remember.. doesn't Miami have a pretty nice zoo? I think they may have (or had in the past) white tigers...

The miami Metro zoo, the Miami Sequairium (sp), the beaches on north miami beach, coconut grove, if u need a few other places PM me

For Miami

when I went there, I went to South Beach, Coconut Grove, and Bayside....

we also caught a showing of "Cats" at the theater....

For Orlando

Disney
Mall
that's all I can remember..
and maybe Olde Town...

Great timing if you want to go to Universal, they have the Halloween Horror Nights going on the month of October, I highly suggest going during the night if you do go there for the parks during the day. (I have my tickets for the 16th already).

Of course you'll have to see South Beach if you'll be in MIA, Las Olas or Beach Place in Ft. Lauderdale are fun also.

There are countless things that you could do really, it all depends on your definition of fun.

Edit: how long are you going to be in FL? If you're here until the end of Oct. there is Fantasy Fest happing the last week of Oct. in Key West, that is a fvcking blast! Like Mardi Gras somewhat, tons of naked women everywhere, streets get jammed packed with just a ton of drunk and semi naked people having a good time, some of the most fun I've ever had has been past years going there.

Well, I'm going with my girlfriend hehe, will be only there from 2 Oct - 10 Oct. OK, I'm sure we gonna check out the Universal Studios 😀 How long of a drive from Miami is it to Orlando?

Thanks for the info!

Ahh, I see.

Well it takes about 3 hours for me to get to Orlando, I'm right at Ft. Lauderdale though, so you'll be about 30-45 mins south of me depending on traffic and route, etc...

I'd say plan on about 4 hours and take the turnpike (toll road) for the easiest path, (about $15 each way) it will bring you right to I-4 which goes through Orlando and brings you right to Universal.

That Halloween Horror Nights at universal starts at night time, they shut down the parks at like 7:00 PM or so and then open both Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure up and its just a huge area with tons of haunted houses and people dressed up running around scaring the sh!t out of people, tons of fun.

Check it out.

Except there is none this south...

In Ft. Lauderdale there's RiverFront on Las Olas. Las Olas is a street that has a lot of shops and restaurants. There's an Imax theatre in the Science Museum. There's also a Hard Rock Hotel that just opened up recently in Hollywood. I can't really think of much to do here haha 😀

Halloween Horror Nights @ Universal is cool if you're into that kinda thing. The event dates are October 1-2, 8-10, 13-17, 21-24 & 28-31.

Orlando is about 4 hours from Miami. I'd steer clear of Key West, it's overhyped and not worth the drive from Miami. The other keys though are beautiful and you might want to look into a snorkeling trip at John Penekamp State Park (SP?) in Key Largo. I went with my family when I was younger and it was really awesome...they drop you right out at a coral reef for a few hours and it's amazing. I've heard many good things about Halloween Horror Nights but haven't experienced it yet myself. If you decide you're going to go in the day though, check out Islands of Adventure.
