For the love of god, the only TV station that isnt showing 9/11 programming is the weather channel! Half of the websites I regularly visit havent been updated. Half of the threads in OT are 9/11 related! I am so sick of this! I am sick of the absolutely shameful and deplorable reporting of this on all the news channels, breeding fear for profit.

Go ahead, and flame me if you want, but I know I'm not alone here. I'm a new yorker my whole life. When the buildings went down, I was there that night volunteering at the salvation army to feed rescue workers and soliders. But this is too much. Can anyone show me anywhere where there ISNT a tribute today?

I mean, I really dont believe for a second that all these web banners and tv programming is there because of heartfelt sadness and tribute. Its there because everyone else thinks everyone else is going to have it, so they have it, and if they DONT have it, well then theyre not americans, theyre with the TERRORISTS!!!

News flash! Nothing happened today, it happened a year ago!

While I disagree with exploitation, those who foget the past are doomed to repeat it. Don't watch the shows or view the websites if you don't want to, but do take a moment to reflect on those that lost their lives that day.

You guys are deplorable. It always comes down to accusing businesses for profiting, doesn't it? Well not today. I haven't seen one commercial- have you? :disgust:

If you don't like what you see, stop b1tching and go do something else.

I'm kind of with you. I think today there actually is some heartfelt emotion being put out from businesses and websites.

They're not profiting by putting up a ribbon or graphic that remembers the victims today. Jeez.

What he said.

And, when i was coming into work this morning I saw four Ikea employees putting five American flags at half-mast today. Tell me how the hell is that is commercialization. Some of you need to get off your anti-corporate high horses.

My plans include giving blood (I do this fairly often, last time was 9 weeks ago), going home and watching some anime, and I might do something for my cousin's birthday if he's not busy. (he's down from Seattle for the week).

Although the WTC attacks were bad, I'd rather remember more signifigant events that caused more drastic changes to this country, like Pearl Harbor.

Who could possibly forget what happened last year??

I don't think that all these companies are trying to profit from this, but to me all this stuff they are doing for 9/11 is only going to make it the most depressing day of the year...AGAIN. Why do we feel the need to reflect on these horrible things that have happened to us in the past year? If something incredibly traumatic happens to you personally, on the 1 year anniversary do you sit down and reflect on it with your friends and family? Chances are you don't. Why? Because you have to move on. There's no reason to drudge up painful memories in order to get over something horrible that's happened. I understand the memorials and I can understand people sending out condolences to people who've lost friends or family on that day, but all the reflection and reliving to me just makes us take a few steps back in order to move on from last year's tragedy.

Like it or not everything you do in America is related to 9/11 in some way. Your Freedom to complain about all the tributes is related because it was your freedoms as an American, like your freedom to speak your mind, is what they were attacking a year ago.

I havent seen one commercial today. Showing commericials today would be too obvious. Nevermind the fact that all day on CNN yesterday there was a logo in the corner that said "Terrorist Alert High" or something like that. If you cant see whats going on with that, I cant explain it to you. Just because businesses arent giving the impression that theyre trying to profit today, doesnt mean they havent been for the last year.

But do you really think that all that you hear today is pure 100% heartfelt condolences? Do you think those IKEA employees decided to put their flags at half mast, or did corporate tell them to? Did corporate do it because they care, or because they thought everyone else would have their flags at half, so they should too?

And I dont believe for a second that they attacked us for our freedom. Thats nonsense. Over the past year, I have heard so little true journalism about 9/11 it makes me sick to my stomach. Instead we are told how to feel, told that everyone is glued to their television, told how everyone cannot move on, how we are all going to have to stick together to pull through this alright blah blah blah....

For the people who lost loved ones, yes. That is something else altogether. If I'm a new yorker, and I can deal, why cant everyone else? Maybe being a new yorker has desensitized me, but I'm sorry, I just dont buy everything I'm hearing on CNN.

I'm going to go play some battlefield 1942, and kill some japs. I'm sure in a few years, I'll be able to play battlefield 2001, and kill some terrorists. :D

I'd rather pay taxes to have our current army buy bigger guns.

I can't speak for everyone, but I know when I see those images, I feel sad. I think a lot of people do. Even big businesses are made up of individuals, of people. And they feel sad too. It's a sad day. You're entitled to your opnion, but it comes across as insensitive.

I'm not angry. Just a little outraged, but I know I'm in the minority, and I'm not afraid of the flames. Normally I dont feel strongly enough to post about any of this.

Insensitive? I guess so. It was a sad day a year ago. Not today. Doesnt look like anything but reopening wounds to me.

I mean dont get me wrong, I know there are a lot of people that are truely sad today, and a lot of people that are truely giving heartfelt emotion out there. But I believe that those people are vastly outnumbered by people pretending to care because they feel they have to.
