Things to do in Yakima?

Gonna be down there on Sunday/Monday, with a few hours to spare. Anything fun to do, or is going to Red Lobster going to be the highlight of my trip?

Update Monday - 4/16

As I pretty much assumed, Yakima was a pit. And I mean, a PIT. You hit Yakima county, and everything turns to dust and scrub like little plants, no trees or grass or animals or anything. For a major agricultural area, it certainly seems like nothing much grows there at all. There's one major road (I90) that runs through the area, there's literally no offshoots until you hit Yakima itself. The town is rundown, the houses are all incredibly old looking and most of them little one-floor shacks no bigger than 500-600sqft on average. We drove through the downtown area, nothing stuck out as being impressive. Pictures will follow later.

Leave Yakima immediately and go someplace nice like Rainier.

I haven't been there, but I never hear good things about it, other than they have great produce farms.

Unfortunately I gotta go there, DoHS says so.

Might as well be, it's in the middle of South-Central Washington state, nothing worthwhile around.

No thanks. I'll be getting there in the evening, have a meeting in the morning on Monday, then I'll be leaving soon after.

That's the best plan. 😀

Well, since nobody seems to have any ideas, I guess I'll just go to Red Lobster and Best Buy and call it a weekend.

Don't go and instead go to Wenatchee (45 minutes north) and hang out with me! Ridge to River is this weekend plus Yakima is gross.

I'm not kidding. There's almost nothing nice to say about Yakima. We all laugh at the "The Palm Springs of Washington!" sign in front...it couldn't be further from the truth.

Yeah, I read up on it a bit, seems like it's kind of a crappy place to be, but I gotta go. I'll just be glad to get home again.

It's not that no one was willing to offer suggestions, it's just there really isn't a lot to do there...lots of outdoor activities, like fishing and hunting (during the season of course), but it's not exactly the cultural hotspot of central Washington...
Here's a site to give you some ideas:

I'm from East Wenatchee and I couldn't agree more.

There is one thing you can do in Yakima...buy fireworks from a Native American stand. They can sell any kind they want and that's where we all go to load up on fireworks that don't just sit there and shoot a few sparks 3 inches in the air for 5 seconds....I'm talking about good fireworks!
