I'm gonna be going to D.C. this weekend. Does anyone know of any cool things to do for free (besides Smithsonian).

There's a guide in one of the Maxim's from last year or the year before. Maybe check their website. :p

It isn't free, but it doesn't cost much. There is a night tour of the monuments/sites available that is really a good time. Very nice. They take you all over the city and give you time to get off the bus and see everything lit up and enjoy the view at each place.

But, be sure and visit the Korean War Monument at night, very inspiring. Seeing it during daylight is great, but it doesn't show the thought and impact of the monument nearly as well as it shows at night.

I wish I could get my dad to travel out and see it with me but its not going to happen I guess.

I went last summer for the first time... Saw lots of cool stuff...Try the National Archives (if it's open, they were updating it), Library of Congress, Lincoln, Washington, and Jefferson Memorials, Korean and Vietnam Memorials, and of course the Smithsonian. Whitehouse and capital building are cool to walk around but I'm not sure if they're open again for tours yet and will depend on the weather. When I was there it was perfect weather so I liked just hanging out on the National Mall too. Oh, I also would try to catch Arlington Cemetary if you get the chance, was really awe inspiring.

BTW - DC Metro is really good way to get around clean, safe, convienient and fairly cheap.

HAVE FUN!

I definitely recommend the Spy Museum. It's pretty cool :)

Umm....if you like monument type stuff, see all the memorials. If you want to go to the top of the Washington Monument, better get your tickets early in the morning but it might be easier this time of year

The metro will take you anywhere and is great. I take it every day to work and still think it's cool (only been in the area for 6 months)

It is rather chilly right now but supposed to get up into the 30s this weekend so may not be too bad.

Yes, head toward's Bailey's Crossroads in the Alexandria area and eat the the Peking Inn. The place has bullet-proof glass in the front and was added so the presidents could eat there. Plus, you'll see pictures of quite a few celebrities on the walls. Plus, the food is great. :)
