So once school ends, Me and my significant other plan to take nice vacation together to relax before summer classes start back up. Do you guys have any reccommendations? Besides the obvious such as "Lets go to Hawaii," or Vegas(we are both underage), Florida(Disney World), or even Canada, what are my options? I know there are 40-something other states to consider, but I just don't know where to start. What are some nice states that can be really good? What do you guys think?

We are both looking for nice vacation packages(2 round way tickets with hotel) at a good price.......any reccommendations people?

Where are you right now?

Coastal California, Oregon, and Washington are beautiful.

Visit California. It's got a much better climate than Florida, is prettier than Florida, rains alot less than Florida, and is generally better than Florida. We've got disneyland (the original!) if you really want to go to Disney. We've also got Monterey, San Francisco, Santa barbara, Yosemite, The Channel Islands, All kinds of stuff in LA, Lake Tahoe, etc...

The Washington D.C. area

Smithsonian
Vietnam Veterans Memorial ie. The Wall (This was a terribly humbling experience for me...at night, with those footer lights.)
White House (I think they're still giving tours)
Arlington National Cemetary (Try to catch a changing of the guard at The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier)
etc...

I"m in good ol' oklahoma, so anything would be good. I did consider Florida, but I don't really know. Maybe California too.

One really neat thing about the Vietnam wall, is if you stand at the end of it (don't remember N, S, etc.), the short end, and look along the length of the wall, the Washington Monument is right in line with it. Hard to explain, but it's a really enigmatic feeling to stand in the energy of the wall and see, shadowing it, an obelisk honoring our first president.

That having been said, the last time I was in DC there was construction EVERYwhere, it sucked.
And I think Arlington NAtional Cemetary is a disgrace- I took a tour (on a BUS, mind you) and saw a funeral. Very unsettling.
The unknown soldier tomb was interesting, though. It's just way too commercialized.

Never did any sort of tour bus thing in Arlington, we walked around. Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is commercialized? Maybe I just went during a "slow" period but it wasn't crowded at all.

I'd like to go back to The Wall without my father sometime to get my own feel of it. It is a very strange feeling, sensation to see your father break down at reading the names of people he knew and was friends with...I've never felt more alone than I did then.

I'm a history buff. I find D.C. and the area remarkably interesting.

And legalized marijuana, and smog, and a preponderance of weirdos. Maybe there's a correlation...

Yeah, I'd say paying for a tour in a cemetary is comercial. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier had bleachers up (maybe not all the time..?) and there was no room to sit at the time I went.
EDIT:
I also went to the Capital building and the Library of Congress, the Lincoln Memorial and the Military 'flag' memorial by the Lincoln memorial (don't remember the name), The Jefferson Memorial, Smithsonian (several), Smithsonian Holocaust museum, The Korean War memorial.. I think that's about it. Didn't see the White House except from the street, like 400 yards away or something.
In all, I'd say it was a mediocre experience, possibly due to circumstance, but I'm glad I went.

San Diego California, I'd stay around Del Mar or Lo Jolla area or even at hotel coranado. Nice weather and beaches, the wild animal park is fun if you like that stuff, and sea world. It's about 90 mins from Disneyland (where I'd reccomend eating at the vinyard room in CA adventure park, great resturaunt, needs reservations).

hmmm how much time do you have? if you have a week or longer, you can go up and down the west coast. you will get a nice combination of tourist attractions and beaches (california), and nature (oregon and washington).
