Be sure to spit your gum on the sidewalk in front of a cop, so you can partake in the national sport of caning...

I lived their for 3.5 years. Visit the zoo. One of the coolest places in Singapore. You can go to Fantasia Island (??). It's a themepark on an island next to Singapore. I think the island is called Sentosa. There's some other cool stuff on the island as well. You can visit the Raffles Hotel. It's named after a guy's last name. I think it has a lot of history related stuff. There's a park where a British fort was, I don't remember what it is called though. There was an underground tunnel between Singapore and Sentosa that the British built. I don't think you can go in, but there is history related stuff on either side of the tunnel. You can go on the coast where there are some good seafood restaurants. I'm not sure where or what it is called, but you can see the the Lion (emblem of Singapore) thing in the water. If you are a student, check out the Singapore American School. If you are out of school, maybe check it out anyways. I left the year before the new school was finished ('96). During Chinese New Year, there are lots of festivals and dragon dances, but I think Chinese New Year is happening right now. The Singapore American Club is pretty nice. They have internet, library, bowling, swimming, racquetball, tennis, good restaurants, etc. You could possibly take a tour or get a one day pass. Lots of people chill there on the weekends.

If you have any more questions let me know, I was really young when I lived there. I can forward any questions to my parents, and they'll tell you everything you want to know about Singapore.

Oh yeah, don't urinate in public, smoke, or chew gum!

and not flushing in a public bathroom, so you can partake in the fun of being executed-on-the-spot :D

1. Sentosa Island (take the cable car from Mt. Faber instead of going by road). Here, you can skip the beaches (they suck) and the water park (if you're short on time), but don't skip the aquarium.
2. Jurong Bird Park (don't forget to take photos with a parrot on your shoulder. take an eye-patch and a pirate hat along, and :))
3. the Night Safari
4. walk down Orchard road. Lots of malls here, including Takashimaya. Orchard rd is decked up for christmas :)
5. take a train to Raffles Place and walk around downtown and along the river.
6. You get great sea-food in the east coast area (near the airport, I can't remember) or at boat quay.
7. Get the real taste of singapore by eating at food courts and roadside food stalls. Since this is Singapore, each of these hawkers carries a health inspection certificate. The food is perfectly safe to eat, very tasty and much cheaper.
8. Clarke quay has some nice watering holes. Don't forget to try out the Malaysian satay sold by street hawkers.
9. If you have time, you might wanna go and see Chinatown and Little India (Serangoon Rd).
10. Tap water in singapore is as clean as (if not cleaner than) bottled water here.

All I could think of atm.

edit:
11. Don't buy anything from Mustafa center. The place is cheap for a reason.
12. Back in the day, they used to sell pirated software at Sim Lim Square... dunno what the situation is today. YMMV.
13. For guts and glory, go to a vegetable market and try some durian. Be sure not to drink alcohol afterwards.

What the guys said above.

To me Singapore is bland and boring. Food is great but Sentosa leaves a lot to be desired.
Shopping is great but the deals found here in the US are better. Night Safari and the zoo are good however. Try Sim Lim square for electronics. You can find a bunch of things that you wont find in the US but I still feel that stuff can be had for cheaper here.

that raffles guy was just the person who decided to make the main british operation there singapore instead of malacca. he's kinda important.

the singapore sling was invented at the long bar at the raffles hotel. they also have their own beer which they claim was frederick the great's own recipe.

<--- going (again) in november

They have very liberal drug laws, so make sure you bring enough weed for the whole trip.
