Going to Shenandoah in August and am interested in hearing others experiences.

Many years ago mother dragged me down there. I was bored. She pondered wine.

I'd recommend anything else. A shitty amusement park. A really high quality rest stop. A quiet park with at least one friendly squirrel.
Anything else.

Skyline Drive, Woodstock firetower, New Market Battlefield, Luray Caverns, Shenandoah Caverns, Reddish Knob, canoeing on the Shenandoah, head west into West Virginia for Seneca Rocks, caving in Franklin, Cass Railroad. Harrisonburg is home of JMU for college bars and eateries.

Its called Shenandoah National Park worked there for two summers eons ago. If you are into Hiking there are hundreds of miles of trails in SNP.

Take a Hike to Old Rag.
Hike to hawksbill. short hike.

If not
Drive down Skyline Drive. Beautiful road with some great views.
If the wind is right there are two Hang Glider launch ramps you can watch them fly. Or you can take a beginners flight in a tandem Hang Glider

From the NPS

"Whether you have an hour, a day, or a week, you can plan a great visit to Shenandoah National Park. Even if you are just passing through the region, use Skyline Drive for a portion of your route. Traveling from one of the four entrances to the next exit takes about an hour. Along the way you will see the beautiful vistas Shenandoah is known for.

If you can spend the day, check the Ranger Programs schedule for a hike, walk, or talk that interests you. Stop by a Visitor Center to get hiking suggestions, and see the exhibits and movies. Or go birdwatching, wander in Big Meadows, or try an earthcache.

A week (or more!) in Shenandoah will fly by with hiking, evening programs at the campgrounds, entertainment at the lodges, visits to our cultural sites and exhibits, and excursions to nearby attractions."

If you like beer: On the way to Seneca Rocks, head to Harrisonburg and hit up Brothers Craft brewing.
Luray Caverns is a great place to visit. They have a working organ using stalactites as the instruments.
If you are going camping be sure to reserve your spot ASAP. They often fill up quickly.

Forgot to mention if you are into authentic German food and beer just a few miles south of the park is the Edelweiss German Restaurant. Great place to wind down at the end of the day sit on the porch and have a beer.
