Things to do in Portland, OR?

Argo

Lifer
Trying to plan a Valentines trip with GF, and one of the possibilities is Portland. Is there anything to do there or am I better looking somewhere else?

don't crash your car

j/k

but seriously, compare to California, I notice there is a LOT of cops hunting speeders down. I will never drive there without a radar detector.

anyway, downtown Portland imo is quite depressing, but the Pearl District is quite nice. check out the wineries (or micro Brewery) around there. (they will require at least a good 30min drive from downtown though).

Blow off Portland and stay in Hood River instead, very nice little town in the Columbia Gorge. Mt Hood is nearby. Scenery up the zingzang.

Great little chain of good "bad pizza" places there called Red Baron's. Two large pizza's, a pitcher of beer and, a pitcher of soda for $14!

Portland has the most breweries of any place in the world. They actually have tour busses that will go to all the nice ones. You get off and drink then on to the next one and drink some more. All the brewereies are very unique and have very unique quality beers. And a lot of them are nice places to eat too. You really should try it!

Also go to the zoo. And Go to pitock mansion. It overlooks the whole city. Take her to SW 23rd (great street to walk around). Go to one of the clubs (Aura is really nice). YOu can stay at the Heathman Hotel and then walk to pioneer courthouse mall. Or take her to a show on broadway at the arlene snitcher concert hall.

Actually, Portland has the most breweries within city limits of any city in the world. Bavaria beats Portland if the "city limits" qualifier is dropped.

Check this place out. Very cool.
Saturday Market under the Burnside Bridge is fun to walk around and see all the random arts and crafts for sale.
There is lots of "scenery" stuff around Portland.

Don't know how much/what kind of travel you're considering, but Ashland is within 300 miles, and is home to the Oregon Shakespeare festival, which is the largest repertory theatre in the U.S.
