Things to do in Los Angeles?

I'm going out for job training next week and the training facility is apparently just north outside of Los Angeles. I imagine I'll be training till like 6pm at night. Is there anything interesting to see or do in Los Angeles in the evening. I'll probably only have from like 7 - 10pm to do anything.
Also a family member told me that people in LA can't drive in the rain. Is that true? I have a hard time believing that one. :/

Yes it's generally true that most people around here and generally Southern CA in general can't drive in the rain.:D

Only place I can think of to go in LA is that chinese theater where all the stars hand, foot, ass prints are.

Depends on what you like and are you going to have a car? LA is one large sprawling mess.
Venice beach is interesting. Downtown Hollywood can be fun with lots of bizarre shops, even stranger people, some great eatery places, and clubs (i like The Rib Joint off Sunset Blvd). The Dodgers are playin'! Downtown LA, hit Alvera Street and Chinatown. There are plenty of museums for art, cars, you name it. LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art usually has a cool band playin in the evening). Use some sense if you are going places alone and in unfamiliar territory as the neighborhoods vary and can change quickly. You might hit a google search for the City of Los Angeles. The homepage is pretty cool and you should be able to find some items of interest in there w/info.
If you can manage it, go to downtown Pasadena!
And no, people from LA cant drive in the rain.

I suggest you find some good places to eat in LA. If you're never been to In n Out, i suggest you try it out.

The weather is also getting much warmer, hitting the beach would be nice.

there is the usual citiwalk, 3rd street promenade, and if you wanna go to irvine , block spectrum etc.

most people here cant drive when its not raining. i dont know whats so hard about it. i have been driving for maybe 2 years, and i'm told i'm a really good driver since i can parallel park and drive in the rain.

i think the key to driving in the rain is well not panicking and having good tread. most people in LA dont have good tread since they barely change their tires since it barely ever rains.

I'll have a rental car. I'll have to check out places like Venice beach and Pasadena (Will I find the little old lady from Pasadena here? :) )
When is the evening rush hour? 4 - 6? 3 - 7? I imagine I'll want to avoid LA during rush hour.
Aceshigh, what is the viper room?
Thanks.

He's from New York according to his profile, I think he can handle it. :p

Try to avoid driving from 5-7, but usually more 4-8.

The Viper Room is that club that's owned by the actor Johnny Depp. Outside the Viper Room is where River Phoenix overdosed.

It's supposed to be one of the popular nightspots in L.A.

It all kinda depends on how old you are and what youre into. If you are young and into clubs, hit Hollywood (careful of the mosh-pits). If you want something a bit more upscale @ 25 to 35-ish, get over to Pasadena. They have some very nice clubs and places to eat.

Hollywood is fun whether you're clubbin or just walking the streets.

LA rush hour is 24/7

Get a good freeway map. People from LA drive very aggressive, fast and close together.

Early 30's here. Never did acquire a taste for alcohol. I suppose I might have a sombrero if it's prudent to have a drink but I'm not much into clubbing.
As for traffic, I learned to drive from my father who grew up in New York City. Agressive, fast, and close together are driving terms I'm very familiar with. :)

As for meeting people like Jooksing I don't mind. It's been almost 20 years since I last went to LA and may be another 20 again before I'm back. :/
