Things to do in Hawaii?

Well I just dropped a big penny on a plane ticket to Hawaii to see a friend of mine for a week. I figure I'll probably play on the beach, go snorkling/scuba diving. Go to some bars and enjoy some fruity drinks. You guys got many suggestions? If it matters its the island of Lihue.

Afraid I don't know alot about Lihue, actually never really heard of it.

Snorkling and Scuba diving will be good though.
Basic surfing lessons are cool too.
Maybe take a catamaran ride?
Tennis?

The island is Kauai and the city you will fly into is Lihue.

Live in Hawaii, but never been to Kauai so I'm afraid I'm no help.
Try a Google search on it or pick up one of those travel guides to Hawaii.

Have a fun trip!

Deep sea fishing
Hiking in forests--Kauai has the wettest spot in the USA! 😛
Day trip to Waikiki to do the tourist thing, or visit Pearl Harbor if you're a hx buff.

Probably should have thought about this before you bought the tickets.

Psh, not really 😀 I know there's more than enough to keep me busy just looking for ideas stupid brother 😉

What is "catamaran"

btw Lavagirl I heard its still 70's-low 80's around those parts sometimes in Hawaii during december that sound about right?

Maybe you could meet a girl in a diner and fall in love with her, but she forgets about you the next day because she was in a car accident a few years before and believes its a few years before, but you decide to help snap her out of it because you love her and you want to continue having first dates with her since she doesn't remember you and you continue to try to make her remember you.

definately do a snorkeling package. by which you and about 10 other people get onto a huge sail boat and just cruise all over the place snorkeling/fishing/wining/dining and visiting random stuff. real good time

Going to see the Arizona Memorial and the Missouri would be high on my list.

But on O'ahu, not Kauai.

Late December at sea level, low is about 68 degrees. Highs in the upper 70's to low 80's with usually a 20mph trade wind. Web search or GoHawai'i (official travel site by state).

Things I remember from the Travel Channel... You can do a tube ride on a river there, Waimea Canyon (The "Grand Canyon"), lots of great beaches. In the winter, the north shore can have really big surf, so look for south shore sites.

It would be a long swim to Oahu from Kauai

My understanding is that you can fly from island to island fairly cheaply.

Define cheap. You can go for $73/one way, plus taxes, on Hawaiian Air, but you also have to think about the time you will spend in the airport, security and such.

As a day trip with no luggage it shouldn't be too bad. I suppose it is just a matter of what you want to do, personally I'd make the effort.

Not that cheap. Funny thing is you can probably find plane fares to Vegas from Hawaii at a cheaper rate.

Thanks for the link to the GoHawaii stuff on there. Probably your idea of nightlife and mine are different. Just looking to go out with some friends I know there and have a good time 😉. I did look before and to go from Kauai to Honolulu is like $170 or something like that for a ticket.

what to do in hawaii?
relax.
enjoy being in paradise.
drink a lava flow by the ocean.
take tons of pics of the beauty around you.
taste the freshest fish and fruit you will ever taste in your life there!
check out the cute hawaiians on the beach 😉
there is SO much to do and see there, no matter what island you are on.
If you have never been, go to a luau as well! Its kitschy but fun!

Clearing Post... I PM'd to the OP. I don't want to spoil this place by over-publicizing it.

Metron

Kauai:

Go to the Napali Coast and do some hiking on pristine shoreline.
Go the Waimeia (sp?) Canyon.
Poipu Beach - snorkeling.
See the Spouting Horn
See some of the various waterfalls found throughout this island.
