Things to do in Dallas???

Heading to Dallas this weekend for a little business. Where should I go for fun? What should I do? Any good festivals or anything going on? Girlfriend is interested in cool shopping places (outlet malls, or nicer malls). Also, looking for trendy nightspots to drink beer at. I'll be searching google in the meantime.....but early results are not giving me much hope for fun.....Please, keep me out of the ghetto. 😀

Damnit! I saw this thread, and only saw one post in it and figured no one had said that yet!

Downtown Dallas - you have the American Airlines Center, Reunion Tower, West End, Deep Ellum (Deep Ellum for nightspots to drink at, live bands, etc)
Fort Worth - if you're a cowboy, you'll like Fort Worth. Visit the Fort Worth Zoo while you're at it - excellent, excellent zoo
Malls - Galleria off the tollway and 635, Stonebriar Centre in Frisco, (121 and Preston) Grapevine Mills off of 121 and FM2499 (kind of a big outlet mall, you'd probably like Bass Pro Shop across the highway)
Arlington - The Ballpark in Arlington, Six Flags over Texas, Hurricane Harbor

Stay out of Oak Cliff and try to avoid Irving (ghetto as hell)

Oh - does your girlfriend have a hot sister who is coming too?

i was in downtown fort worth a few weeks ago, and it was REALLY nice. They redid one large section of it and it had some really cool nightspots etc

I want to know too. I'm going to be in Plano all next week for business, which isn't too far from Dallas (20 miles or so??).

Ranger game (baseball) in Arlington

I'd definately do that, but not sure if the gf will be up for it....uggghhhh.....Anyways, they are in town this weekend. I'm going to try and work some magic.

Six Flags Over Texas, The Science Place in Fair Park, go eat at The Mansion if you get a chance, Book Depository in downtown Dallas if you are a history buff, Fort Worth just opened a new Modern Art Museums if you are in to that, the Kimbell Art Museums is right across the street, which is right across the street from the Stock Yards if you want to make a day out of it. There is a nice restaurant right over there too, off of Camp Bowie "Lucile's". Golf courses abound if are bringing your clubs, too many to mention.

Ok since that's the second bad comment about Irving I have seen you post, what is your problem with it? It's a nice town and it seems obvious to me you haven't lived here or spent much time here

Dammit! I live for threads like these, if only to be the first reply and just type "Debbie."

Damn you, stupid job where I can't read ATOT during work! I'm too late!

That was exactly what I was going to post too.

It's a personal opinion. Have you or one of your buddies ever been jumped in Irving? Are all of your friends hesitant into going into Irving, including one 6'4 350lb guy and one 6'1 250lb guy (with 10 years of MMA experience)? Am I stereotyping Irving? Yes to an extent, but my experiences and my friend's and family's experiences with that city have NOT been pleasant. Sorry if I offended you but I'm just giving my two cents. I reluctantly went down there for a job interview and needless to say I was scared as hell.

Ok, I can't speak for marshmello, but I work in Irving and it's a pit. Some of the outlying areas up by Las Colinas (sp?) off 161 are pretty nice, but the majority of the city (esp the area right around beltline and 183) really is about as ghetto as a suburb can get. I hate every day I have to drive up to that hellhole and long for day when I can get a job in a different city. If you really think it's a "nice town" maybe you should visit some places like: Edgecliff Village, most of Arlington, Plano, Garland, Benbrook / SW Ft. Worth, etc.

Agreed, I don't work there but I avoid it like the plague. (See ^ post) I'm sure he's lived there for a while and can vouch for certain parts of Irving and can probably disspell whatever I said, but I hate driving down to that area.

Speaking of weather - we have some funky $hit up here. It was clear this morning, blazing hot, got up to like 95 before storm clouds came out of nowhere, had I think 1 or 2 tornados

Dallas is great. Definitely hit up Deep Ellum for nightlife. I've seen some great bands out there. There are also really nice clubs if that's your thing.

During the day, definitely do some JFK stuff if either of you care anything about history. I found it really interesting to see the "grassy knoll" area and the book depository museum (I think it's called the 6th Floor Museum) is really good.

Too bad it's not NBA season... I caught a Mavs game in the new arena and had a blast.

Man, I was at Fedex this afternoon and I left the window down on my truck cause I thought I was going to be in and out... by the time I got out, it was freaking pouring and my drivers side seat got nice and soaked. :|

I can't really add much to what these guys have said. Make sure you go through Addison to check out all the places to eat, after all, its nickname is "Dallas's Kitchen". There are several bars/clubs in Ellum to get anyone drunk and usually lots of live music on the weekends. Oh yeah, and if you want to see people living it up in their freaking castles, come through Willow Bend in Plano. Jeebus, there are some insane houses out there.

If you are scared to come into Irving, I feel sorry for you. I have lived her my entire life and I can tell you from experience Irving is a beautiful place to live. I suggest you open your mind and give it a second chance, otherwise you are just missing out. Besides, we have the Cowboys 😛

I have worked in Plano and Dallas and I have a house in Arlington. Since I grew up here, I pretty much know the Dallas county portion of the metroplex. Irving is far from a hellhole, imo. But to each his own.

I was in Dallas about a month and a half ago. I went to topless bars, which probably would not work for your girlfriend.
From a tourist's view point, downtown Dallas looked interesting.

Where are you staying?

Check out this thread.
