Things to do in Cancun?

6 nights, third week of March.

This is my first Cancun trip in the Hotel Zone, so I understand it'll be pretty touristy. That's fine with me. Bear in mind we've been south of Cancun before (Riviera Maya), that means:

  • Save the "Avoid Cancun, check out Riviera Maya/Playa del Carmen" advice, we did it.
  • Also did Tulum, & Xel'ha
  • Coco Bongo (this was amazing)

I guess I'm looking for more Cancun specific recommendations:
  • Any must-try restaurants/bars in the Hotel Zone strip?
  • Is it worth visiting the Cancun town itself? It's about a 15 min ride I presume. Same goes for food/things to do/activities in 'real' Cancun town?
Yes, it'll be generally just relaxing in the resort and drinking. But I just want to make sure I don't miss something. It's 6 god damn nights.

Thank you.

You're crazy. Third week of March is college spring break.

Based on my research, most spring breakers are prior to March 21. And they won't be staying my 5-star resort (so the staff tells me).

GA Tech spring break is the 3rd week of March (16-20). The only 5-star hotel in Cancun is Fiesta Americana Grand Coral Beach Cancun Resort & Spa. That's a nice hotel. I stayed there last year and enjoyed it.

Find some excursion people on the shore or around the town. Depending on party size (we had like 16) You can get a private boat + snorkeling+ lunch on island+ parasailing for $50. I also recommend XPLORE excursions ( much more pricier) . Nightlife is worst than vegas now so you will have to pay like $35 to get in a club. And if you want to go into town and do not mind dying do to non regulated traffic , Rent a scooter . Have fun

Food - honestly, nothing excites me in Cancun as I think we have superior ingrediants & chefs stateside. Even our California taquerias are superior to everything they have in Cancun Mexican food wise.

Since your at a 5* eat on the resort and enjoy the unlimited cocktails.

Chichen Itza along with the Ik Kil cenote near by is a good time but its 3.5hrs of driving each way.

The 3hr boat/snorkel tour through the lagoon is pretty cool. You depart next to the Pirate Ships so no need to get on a bus.

Cave Crossing tour we hard is fantastic.

The City nightclub is a lot of fun, huge - good show - but packed.

if you must go shopping, Isla Mujeres on the ferry then rent a golf cart for a fun 4hr drunken excursion is always good too.

If he's staying at Fiesta Americana Grand Coral Beach, that's European plan style and not all inclusive. So he will have to pay for every food and drink. If he pays extra, he can stay on the top Grand Club level rooms which will give him free snacks/foods and drinks similar to Ritz Carlton Club Level. The Grand Club is worth it just for the view.

I'm pretty sure Le Blanc qualifies as well. Depending on the booking site other locations like Live Aqua would be listed a 5 star

i was going to recommend going to xel'ha but looks like you've done it already. check out xcaret if you haven't done that yet.

also, i 100% would recommend taking a day trip to isla mujeres. it's like a 45 minute boat trip on the ferry over there, where they have beaches and unlimited drinks/food, depending which company you go with. been there twice, and the 2nd time we rented golf carts and drove around the island for a few hours. it was so much fun and the scenery is beautiful there.

as far as the clubs, my favorite (went in 2007 and 2011 so it might be different now) was daddyo's. i went to that club both times and it was awesome. i personally thought coco bongo was a tad overrated. it was a neat experience, but i wasn't a fan of how it was mainly just mini-shows the whole night, and it felt very cramped in there because of all the tables. i prefer the huge clubs like daddyo's. oh, and the city was awesome. also, most of those clubs are like $40 to get in but its all you can drink all night.

i would not recommend senior frogs. senior frogs is basically an american bar in cancun. stick to the big clubs, they are more fun and different than most places in the states.

there are also some great taco shops right in the main downtown area near all of the clubs. definitelyr ecommend the chorizon over in mexico because it's so much better than the stuff you get here.

Keep your head and limbs attached to your body.

Normally a good idea but with this being Mexico, well he shouldn't make promises he can't keep.

j/k OP, I hope you don't die. And if you do, well, nobody here would believe it anyway.

Drunk college chicks? I can think of literally no other reason to consider going to such a destination over Spring Break.

This. I saw no mention of a wife. If you don't it's like: I went to the factory where they manufacture trampolines, breed cute puppy dogs, and create the worlds most delicious ice cream, but I stayed in the lobby drinking cups of water.

+1 for Isla Mujeres.
Chichen Itza is great if you're into history. More extensive than Tulum, but no beach.

If I go again I'll make time for a side trip to Valladolid. (100 miles west of Cancun.)

Valladolid: Spanish Colonial town. Old, but alive, not a Mayan ruin. And a lot closer than Merida.
Ek Balam: a Mayan ruin.
Cenote: I don't know which is best, but a cave swim sounds fun.

Not sure why you'd want to stay in Cancun, but to each his own.

Chichen Itza is very cool and cenotes are really cool too.

Eh it runs all the way through the month and they will stay at the 5 star hotels down there. And unless you plan to hunker down in your hotel the entire place is going to be crazy. I have been on 3 spring breaks there. 2 during college, one a couple years after.
