you're staying at the league?
1) in the morning, go to angelo's. corner of catherine and glen, across from the covered skyway thing. Raisn toast to die for.
2) walk west on catherine till you hit 5th, then turn right. walk north till you hit the farmers market. open till 3pm. not much is sold in the winter, though. zingerman's is a famous sandwich shop across the street, but I think it's overrated and overpriced. kav's is a great market for produce.
3) walk south on 5th, back into downtown. good music shops: encore (on liberty, next to the michigan theater) and wazoo (on state, just north of ashley's). there's also a couple good used book stores on liberty. stucci's has good ice cream and an unbelieveably well priced brownie sundae (seriously, it's huge)
4) if it's pleasent and warmish, go south on state and turn left on monroe. head for dominick's and drink sangria on the patio till you can't remember where your hotel is. if it's still cold, just go into ashley's and attempt to sample all 60+ beers they have on tap. combine with buffalo wings. beat up frat boys who attempt to sing along with bon jovi on the jukebox.
as mentioned, the state theater and the michigan theater generally run all the good indie movies the midwest doesn't usually get.
