I'm going to New York this Friday with my wife and her parents to start our vacation. We're doing a cruise of the eastern seaboard from NY up into Montreal. We've each been assigned cities to plan our sightseeing... and I got NY and Boston. So what must we see in these two cities? We have from approx. 8am to 5pm to see all we can see.

In NY I have on my list: ground zero, empire state building, statue of liberty, hello deli (of Letterman fame), and Times square.

In Boston I have the freedom trail, the museum of bad art (found on fodors.com), and maybe Harvard or Salem.

If you make a great suggestion I'll take a pic on our trip, post it on a website and give you credit for the idea.

Central Park... how did I forget that.

I did a google search fof the green/orange tour and found something about the duck tour. Anyone been on that? It's like an amphibious vehicle that they drive around the city and in the river. It got all rave reviews on citysearch.

Boston - Old North Church and the surrounding area.
New York - Ellis Island since you are planning on the Statue of Liberty. FWIW I would not get your hopes up about actually going inside the statue since the one time we tried it in the winter the line to get in was a good 1.5 hour wait. Perhaps someone that lives in NYC can give you better info on it but that was our experience.

For the statue of liberty I saw that you can take the saten island ferry at south ferry terminal... for free!! I have no real desire to see the inside of the statue but it might be cool to see it from a ferry.
