Things to consider before you choose to punish teamkillers in BF2

1) Were you running in front or behind of a vehicle?
If so, it is your own damn fault don't TK punish. Do you go running out in front of cars in real life? Pay attention to those big pieces of armor that are trucking around the map. The drivers can't always see you so it is up to you to be aware of your surroundings.

2) Did you get TK'd by a mine? Before you were TK'd by a mine did you look to see for that nifty skull and crossbones icon warning you that there was a mine there? Did you happen to notice one of your teammates broadcasting a message that a certain area was mined? If you ignored the broadcast and ignored the mine icons, it is your own damn fault. Pay attention. Don't punish.

3) Did you try to jump on a helicoptor as it was lifting off? That's your fault you were TK'd. Don't punish.

4) Did you ignore the giant artillery icon on the map and run into an area that was getting bombarded? That's your fault you were TK'd. Don't punish.

5) Are friendlies showing up with red icons over their head during the game? If so, be considerate if your TK'd and don't punish. EA and Dice's bug sucks.

Please, make the game little more enjoyable for everyone and don't be so hasty to punish. At least wait to see if the person apologizes.

One of the problem is that it is too hard to distinguish enemy soldiers from friends visually (unlike in BFV), and the blue friendly name doesn't always appear, and you have to react fast...

The punishee gets a -5 on their team score. If it happens enough, you could get booted from the server.

That is what happened to me the other night. Teammates kept running over mines I had placed and then punishing me. I also accidently shot one guy because of that damn bug where teammates show up with red. I ended up getting booted from the server.

My favorite teamkill by far at this point was when I shot down a Blackhawk with one of the AA missle stations. The Blackhawk then fell on a teammate, killing him, and I was punished.

Ya, I think you will have to deal with it. Childish, egotistical, punks who like to waste people's time will always be present in every game. I only punish them if they do it more than once, when I just know it was intentional.

And yes, they really need a better server interface/browser, this is ridiculous.

When I know it was intentional, if I run behind youre vechele and you back up and turn and get me ya I'll punish. In reality the colored names are to slow to show, and with autoballance changing your side, uniforms are too easy to confuse. If you pause to be sure your as good as dead. I try my best not to tk but if it happenes *shrug*. Mines and claymores gotta be used with some sence though, if youre gonna put them all over your gonna lose points, lose more than you gain? I dont know. I seldom play those classes.

I tend to put them around a flag in a way that friendly vehicles can strill drive around a base but flag cappers in vehicles will get blown up. The only time I put mines down on a road or entrance is when I see an enemy vehicle coming. I'll then try and pick them up if the vehicle doesn't make it.

I've tried to change my mine laying strategy as much as possible to prevent TKing but I'm still amazed at the number of times that people don't pay attention to the skull and crossbones that they are about to drive over....

By default, if you don't forgive them they get punished....I got TK'd then revived by the guy who TKd me and he apologized and we were immediately engaged and the 10 or 15 seconds or whatever expired and he was punished.

But, ya, too hard to tell each side apart.

Same thing happens all the time in Enemy Territory. Some dumbass goes and walks over mines planted by a teammate and then bitches when he gets killed.

Do server admins have the ability to turn TK punishing off? If I ran a server - which I just might do - I'd probably just turn it off.

I don't think they do on the ranked servers. You have to abide by EA's rules to run a ranked server.

You'd at least think though that the default would be to not punish when someone doesn't vote to punish or not.

I experienced yet another weird TK last night. I trapped a tank by laying a mine in front of it and behind it on a narrow road where it couldn't really turn around. A teammate runs up to the tank to plant C4 (I think) and the tank backs up over my mine and blows himself and my teammate up. I then get punished for a teamkill. <sigh>
