There are two recent threads where people have watched movies (Platoon and Three Kings) and, seemingly, formed opinions about historical events based on Hollywood fiction. Movies are movies. They refelct the directors views on the subject, not fact. If movies get you interested in a topic or event that's fantastic. But do more research on said topic before forming an opinion. Read books (there are plenty about any war), read magazine/web articles, and talk to people who were there if you can. Events such as war (including the reason for it, the fighting of it, and the after math) are far to complex to be entirely represented in any single work of media(book, documentary on TV, etc...), especially a fictional movie from the most manipulative place on Earth(I work in Hollywood, I can say that
).
That said, I like both Platoon and Three Kings. They were what they were meant to be: entertaining.
Too many people are letting the media do their thinking for them.
Hmmm... I'm gonna end this before I really start ranting...
