I had a few problems with my computer lately and it all seemed to be after i moved it. I moved the tower the other day and it struggled to boot up, finally it seemed to be fine, and everything worked ok. Yesterday, i took my tower to my friends house and we hooked it up to his router so we could trade some miscellaneous files. Took it downstairs, hooked it up. Booted to the login screen (win XP) and then would just restart itself. Tried to figure it out, couldn't. Brought it home, still couldn't get it. Got home after work, plugged it in, worked fine.

Today i took everything out except the mobo & processor, i was lookin at the inside and i noticed when my friend put my mobo in, he left one of those screw holes open, with a thingy under it (ya know, the thing the screw screws into, stud maybe?). Would this have possibly caused my recent problems? Maybe when i moved it, it was touching wrong and screwed things up? But i guess the reason i'm not sure that's it is it would boot until it got to the login screen and then it was like it just got sick of running and restarted. Any ideas?

I have a PC at work (Athlon 900 based on Asus A7Pro) which is missing 3/9 screws due to lack of STANDOFFs i had at the time... it works fine, that shouldn't be a problem as far as I can see.

well crap, i thought maybe i had made a revelational discovery...i was hoping that would solve my fears of this happening again. all the other things have screws in them cept that one, i just thought maybe if the mobo wasn't making a good connection there it would mess it up, guess not :( back to lookin for the problem

He may have put a screw in the hole and forgot to screw it in, the bolt may be floating around the case somewhere might even be under the motherboard. If this is the case it may roll around when you move it and short something out and then when you move it again it will be OK. Check it out.
