Agreed on the maple syrup, although the best I can get regularly is the 12.5oz glass bottle from Maple Grove Farms.

Computer case - I buy one every 8-10 years and recycle it through internal parts. Still rocking an antec 1040B

Computer monitor - Same as above, although my 2005 FPW is about to go

Cookware - the heavier the better

Meat - I don't mean eat steak all the time, but get it from a good place. I'd rather eat "expensive" pork chops from the local butcher than "cheap" ribeyes from the supermarket even though the pork chops are "not as good".

Coffee - bad coffee = blech

I never use syrup, so no big deal there.

Agree with others on computer case, beer, and toilet paper.

I bought a pint of maple syrup from my old cubemate before. His family produced it. It was excellent and much better than the cheapest bottle from Walmart, but it's not like that cheap stuff isn't good. Oh wait, it's ATOT.

Also I buy the cheapest toilet paper from Walmart. It's like $1.12 for 6 rolls. Nothing wrong with it.

Yeah, 16 oz. That's like two pancakes.

eat enough sugar?

I like to mix real maple syrup in a 1:1 ratio with this sugar-free syrup we get at the store.

I'd preferably use all maple syrup, as I don't drown my pancakes in the stuff, but it's too costly - a family setting would basically go through one container, unless it was a massive one but still it's like $5 worth a syrup for one family meal of pancakes and etc. Cheaper still than eating that entire meal out, but sometimes home cooking should be far cheaper per plate than eating out.

And I figure if I'm diluting my maple syrup with fake stuff, might as well make it more fake with fake sugar... that way I can still get mostly good maple-ness, and also cut my sugar intake.

I just got my 1 gallon jug of maple syrup from my friend just the way I like it, so dark you can barely see light through it. His dad makes a small batch for me every years like that, its soo damn strong. I guess if you want by grades its darker than grade B but none of the syrup he makes has ever been graded

If you live in the northeast you should make a trip to sugar country and buy from one of the thousands of "sugar houses". You get better maple syrup than you get in a store, its cheaper and the profit goes to the growers.

If you can get to Brattleboro Vermont I can personally recommend the Robb Family Farm. They have the best maple syrup I ever tasted. They also do mail order.
Here's a linky:

Just purchased a small bottle of Grade B. We shall if I concur with you sir.

Classic case: English Muffins.

To this day, none have the nooks, let alone the crannies, that Thomas' does.
All the better for holding that unpasteurized local honey.

Aircraft parts. Sometimes the lowest bidder is not the best option.

I have never had real maple syrup. I think that gives me a leg up though because I can stew in my ignorance and save money.

One you have it you'll shit bricks.

I get my honey from my neighbor who lives a mile away. :)

I should buy all the maple syrup that the Amish are able to produce, and resell it online. :) I wonder what kind of discount I'd get on "I'd like 200 gallons, please." A $5 per gallon profit wouldn't be bad... If I divided it into quarts, I could possibly make 10 to 15 per gallon. Hmmmmmm...

Two things you should NEVER "cheap out" with are your work shoes and your mattress. You spend too much time in one...and not enough time in the other.

No kidding. I've had local honey that so blows away the "generic" supermarket offerings that you'd scarcely believe it's the same stuff!

There's such a wide range with honey, it's like with wine. Each is different from another, vineyard to vineyard, so as with hive to hive.

How they get that supermarket stuff to the same bland consistency is a miracle of modern industrial food processing! :p

You should try to only partake in locally harvested honey as its daily consumption works as an immunotherapy directed against allergy causing pollen spores in your area.

You all have almost convinced me to buy some Maple Syrup on Amazon since I don't have any Amish around here, just too many Jehovahs. Do they make maple syrup?
