The gf and I are going to White plains, NY to visit some of her friends and family. .. we'll have the last few days of our trip to ourselves (12/31-1/2), and are staying somewhere near white plains/westchester - we're flying into HPN and renting a car, probably end up getting a hotel around there also..

My question...anyone know of some intresting things we could do for new years eve? We don't want to goto NYC - mainly because the cost/logistics of it.

There is not too much to do up there. Maybe spend New Year's at a nice restaurant with the GF? What is HPN BTW?

From White Plains the only cost of going into the city for New Year's is Metro-North + subway to where you want to go. There are plenty of bars by Grand Central that will have ridiculous parties, so you don't even need to use the subway if you don't want to (although the best New Year's parties are scattered all over). A tiny bit of research will get you into a great party for a not so high price (top [and i mean top] shelf open bar all night, champagne toast etc.) If you're in your 20s this is universally known as a great time.

I am in White Plains. There is not much you can do there.
I would recommend NY city for new years eve / party.

If you are into wine and good restaurant/lodging... I spent a bunch of time beginning of last year at a place called the Kittle house...... A+ wine bar, decent rooms for not too much... maybe A Hundred Forty a night..... www.kittlehouse.com.... it's between Chappaqua and Mt. Kisco, right up the Sawmill parkway/rail lines outta NYC North.... Near Clintons Neighborhood.......... Not sure what the New Years deals might be... small outta the way place.....

I think that White Plains has it's own little ball drop ceremony, but why bother? You got a Metro North station right there, and it's a 30 minute ride into Grand Central for under $20 each round trip.

Stifko: HPN is the code for white plains airport, the airport i'll be flying into

Legendary: Thanks, I wasnt worried about the cost of going into the ctiy - but i believe the metro and such stop running at like 2am, which creates a hassle because getting back before then...not sure though. we are in our twenties, but neither of us really enjoy a crowded "bar" type atmosphere. We'll probably end up in the city, but need to figure out logistics first.

Spasticnationboy: Thanks, thats an excellent recommendation, i might call them to see if they have a room available...sounds great and good wine is always a plus.
