Do you realize that you're probably taller than you think you are? If you are standing next to a person of equal height, you will think they are taller. The reason is that you are looking at the top of their head to judge the height. But your eyes will be looking above the 'horizon', thus misleading you.

Also, when you look into a mirror, you are not seeing what other people will be seeing when they look at you; You are seeing a reverse image. They do make a mirror that will allow you to see what others see when they look at you, but I'm sure its quite expensive.

Finally, as Baz Luhrmann says, 'you are NOT as fat as you imagine'. Oh yah, objects in mirror are closer than they appear :)

haha.. reminds me.. I saw a guy who must've been <5 ft today.. he looked normal too (from far away) - skinny guy with a normal-sized face for the body.. so in reality he had a very small head. it was funny so I laughed to myself.

Now how exactly would this mirror work?

This is why most poeple hate to see pictures of themselves, it is not the person they see in the mirror, thus it looks "odd" to them.

The cause of this is your face is not symmetrical, each side viewed individually looks quite different.

Everything in the world is designed for the short runty righthander. I usually see the tops of most people's heads and have been left handed from beginning.:D

The mirrors aren't or shouldn't be expensive. I remember my parents bought me this book when I was like twelve on weird science. It came with this flexible piece of reflective plastic about the size of a sheet of paper. If you stuck it about a foot in front of your face and bent it into a "U" it was fairly easy to get the sides of your face to line up. You would then see your face "corretcly" with the sides not flipped.
