Does anybody here use a thin client farm for doing distributed computing applications? I bought this item from ebay some time ago, but do not have the time nor patience to get it up and running. My hope is that somebody here can use it. I really appreciate this forum as a means to gather information. If you'd like a IBM 233 mhz client, get in touch. Moderators, I posted this here because I have no intention to sell this, and I do not believe that people who paroused For Sale / Trade were looking for this particularly. Thank you for your understanding!

I administer those horrible contraptions at work. - i don't think they would really be effective for DC projects, as they are basically just connections to a server. it might be of use to someone who would want a dummy terminal on a home network - something to browse the internet, connecting to a server via rdp, terminal services or citrix ica.

We have about (70) of the Compaq T20 thin clients and another (20) of the Compaq T1010 thin clients in the library system where I work.

The 1010s are CE based and there's very little one can do with the "desktop" - nothing can run locally and there's little ram in them; the T20s(that we have) are running NT4.0 Embedded(sp5), and again there's little one can do to run an app locally. They're extremely limited on local harddrive/cache space as well. Ours are used in a Citrix environment where the apps are running on the server anyway, and the thin client is a convenient end-user interface for the public.

If we had it do over again, we'd go with slightly more expensive PCs as the thin clients are extremely limited in functionality over the long term.
