I already have a Q9550 oc to 3.7ghz and like it a lot... but thought of using an old Lian li Case I have with a 800watt PS already on it.... and felt the AMD seems to bne a cheaper one like the Phenom 620 or 630 x4. What are your thoughts about it... as it will be cheaper than a i7 or i8 or even the Q9550... I was thinking it will be good for at least 2-3 yrs before I upgrade again.

Budget? Usage?

A single core Sempron based system is probably as cheap as you can get right now, making AMD the obvious choice if the only criteria is price and compatibility with an unspecified 800 watt PSU and Lian Li case. Assuming you don't game or run any demanding flash web content it should easily last 2-3 years without requiring an upgrade.

Otherwise we'd need to know exactly which applications you'll be running in 3 years and your expectations thereof to make a recommendation based on your bizarre requirements.

Unlike every other user on this forum, when I said I would no longer buy Intel products after their illegal monopolistic business practices came to light I actually meant it. I'm not a fan boy, I don't care about brand, but I won't support companies that break the law to try to force competition out of the marketplace. Do your bit for the CPU industry as a whole, buy AMD.

Anything AMD will be weaker than your current C2Q unless you clock it past 3.7Ghz. What exactly is this build going to be for? Just throwing a second computer together for cheap because you can?

I don't get some of the responses in this thread. Anyways depending on your usage for your 2nd system a 620 should be fine. Everything is overkill these days unless you are encode videos heavily or are into the latest games.
