Thieves net $100,000 in WaMu ATM scheme. IT WORKED ???

I saw it, the guy on CSI put in a fake card reader, but he used a camera to get PINs not a fake keypad

How can you not notice a fake keypad and a slot?
Installing something truly authentic would require considerable time. I'm surprised bank clerks didn't notice anything suspicious.

And if you install a fake slot, how do you allocate space for the card to go all the way in?
I'm confused.

I think they put the fact slot on top of the real slot, so that it would read the card as it goes in to the real slot.

They need to hire a better writer/editor:

"Banks typically offer the aggrieved customer a line of credit until the charges can be proved."

It should be proven not proved. I see this crap all the time on news sites. Lazy bastards.

If I'm not mistaken, a scam was run quite a few years ago in a mall or some other stores...
A fake ATM machine was installed. Customers inserted their card, keyed in their pin. Thiefs recorded their card's info, had the pin. Then, they made up cards with the customer's info on it, inserted it into a real ATM machine, and withdrew the cash.

This has been happening in Europe for a while as well, they'd put up a whole machine somewhere, collect cards and PINs, then just move it.
